Wild bergamot is a widespread plant that grows on dry, sandy or gravelly soil on lake or stream beaches, on dry or rocky bluffs or slopes, or in woodlands. It spreads by rhizomes. The plant is aromatic, especially the flower heads. It is visited by butterflies, bees and hummingbirds.
